Like many of our Medics, recently promoted Corporal Matt Parker joined because he wanted to be able to help people here and abroad.

Growing up on the Mid-North coast of New South Wales at Old Bar, Matthew Parker spent his spare time playing tennis and hiking.

As a boy Matthew’s dad gave him two choices - join Scouts or Air Force Cadets. He chose Air Force Cadets, his inspiration coming from his Great-Grandfather who was an Air Force Catalina Flight Engineer during World War II.

“I followed my dream joining the Australian Defence Force as a medic with an interest in helping people back to good health,” said Corporal Matthew Parker.

“As an RAAF Medic I have a huge responsibility of the holistic management in health care for personnel when deployed on operations and exercises.

“Some situations do test my clinical skills, with my aim always to deliver best care,” he said.

Matt believes the best part of his career has been the interaction with people, having worked with amazing medical staff.

“As a Medic my first posting was to Number Two Expeditionary Health Squadron. I have deployed on numerous exercises and deployed to the Middle East as a part of the Airbase Operations Unit,” Corporal Parker said.
