Government House Hobart, a special venue and one of few remaining examples of early 19th century architecture, was the ideal location for a reception to commemorate Air Force’s Centenary.
Held on 23 March 2021, and hosted by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner and Mr Warner, the reception welcomed 50 guests with musical accompaniment by Army Band Tasmania.
Guests included centenarian Flight Lieutenant Brian Winspear, who enlisted in the Air Force at the outbreak of World War II as a wireless operator/air gunner and survived the bombing of Darwin in 1940. Remarkably he drove himself to the event!
The setting was fitting for the Centenary commemoration of an Air Force that has asked so much of Australia's young men and women. It highlighted the role of 29 Squadron and showcased the contribution Air Force has made to Australia’s history.
