The main activity for the Air Force Centenary program of events was the presentation of Air Force’s new Queen’s Colour on the lawns of Government House, coinciding with a flypast. These activities began at 10.00am on Wednesday 31 March 2021, concluding at 12.00pm in Canberra, ACT.
The Air Force was presented a new Queen’s Colour by the Governor-General on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the lakeside lawn of Government House in Canberra. The event culminated in 77 historic and current aircraft flying over Lake Burley Griffin (1 Navy, 3 Army, 14 Warbirds, 51 Current Aircraft, 6 Roulettes + 1 x PC21 for weather reconnaissance and 1 x E7 Wedgetail for overall surveillance). Rond Terrance on Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin hosted a number of veterans and other invited guests to view the flypast.
The mass flypast was heavily advertised and as a result an estimated 50,000 plus members of the public were invited to witness the spectacular at key locations on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin and other key vantage points including the Arboretum, Mount Ainslie and Red Hill.
The Colour Parade and flypast were telecast nationally via ABC TV and all major news outlets featured the events on their channels.
